These classes are open for full time registration. You can audit any class once. You can take one trial of any class. You can take unlimited drop-ins for On-Camera Audition Skills Class and Musical Theater for a higher fee. All classes are held in Manhattan, see location details in class descriptions.

Core Curriculum Block Classes

On-Camera Audition Skills & Voiceover Intensive

Space is limited to 15 students - September 11th - October 30th , 2017

This weekly 3-hour intensive class is crucial to learning and practicing all the skills you need to audition successfully. At least one hour each week will be devoted to learning and honing voiceover skills. Landing just one co-star booking can make you almost $1,000! Just one voiceover can make you over $3,000!

In the Audition Skills Training section, you will be working each week in a simulated audition setting:

  • Students can use film, tv or theater scenes.
  • All scenes will be put on-camera, so that you can review your work after class.
  • You will work with a reader for each scene.
  • You will practice all the skills you will need to successfully audition including incorporating last-minute changes to character and circumstances.
  • some classes will also focus on cold readings for commercials.
In the Voiceover section:
  • Understand and work on various types of voiceovers.
  • Record voiceover copy.
  • Learn the naunces of what make a voiceover actor successful.
  • Learn how to give different takes for a single voiceover.

Prerequisite: This class is for actors who are ready to audition. Beginner actors must also take "Improvising And Acting Skills Intensive" as auditioning requires excellent technique including understanding character breakdown, beats, objectives and intentions

Improvisation and Acting Skills Intensive

Class is limited to 15 students - September 5th - October 24th

This weekly 4-hour intensive class is crucial to honing your acting skills, keeping them sharp and landing bookings. Landing just one co-star booking can make your almost $1,000!

The first 2 hours will focus on Improvisation in Acting. Taught by Johnny Culver, you will learn to be alive and active in each moment during your scenes. You will learn to adapt quickly to changes that might be thrown at you during your scenes by Casting Directors. You will learn to adapt quickly when the relationships in a scene are suddenly changed. You will learn to adapt quickly when the circumstances in a scene are suddenly changed. You will be working with improvised scenarios as well as scripted scenes. Above all, you will learn to still be real and believable as your improvise upon your work.

The second 2 hours will be taught by Albert Bramante: You will work on television, film and theater scenes. You will learn the essentials of breaking down your character, how to make each beat of your scene the best it can be and how to play your objective. You will understand your "type" and how to master playing every character in your type. You will learn how to be real and how to bring the essence of "you" to each character. You will work on co-star scenes and guest star scenes. You will learn to make each scene believable to Casting Directors. Some time will also be devoted to learning the skills of marketing yourself in the acting business.

Need to create, update or sharpen your repertoire of songs? Perform at your peak! Alan Safier will help find new, appropriate songs for each student or find hidden, personalized nuances in your current songs. Improve your book, get the confidence you need and make your skills pitch perfect.

Grammy-winning composer, producer and music arranger, Thomas Z. Shepard, is the accompanist.

Have a big audition coming up? Drop in and Alan will guide you to dive deeper into the singing/acting of the song and further work can be done to make stellar 16 or 32 bar cuts to your best material so it fits the audition and you book the job!
