Core Curriculum Block Classes

During your focused Core Curriculum study, you will be given focused training to make you grow as an actor as well as succeed in the business of acting including:

  • you will be shown your type by Albert Bramante, the owner of Emerging Talent Agency and Obaid Kadwani, the co-director of Working Actor Studio.
  • you will learn to own your type.
  • your headshots will be reviewed to make sure that they show you as your type.
  • you will be advised about your reel or how to make get clips for a reel.
  • you will be advised about how to market yourself effectively to casting directors and producers.
  • you will be taught how build your acting network and how to sustain your acting network.
  • you will learn to think on your feet and adapt when changes to your character are thrown at you.
  • you will learn to always play your objective, to break your scene into beats, to always be real and learn how to build your character effectively.
  • you will learn the skill of voiceovers.

7 hours of weekly training will have you ready to portray your character realistically, audition confidently, and Get Booked!

Scene/Monologue Study & Voiceover Skills Intensive

Space is limited to 15 students - March 5th - April 23rd, 2018

This weekly three-hour intensive class is crucial to honing your acting and voice-over skills, keeping them sharp and helping you land bookings. One co-star booking can make you almost $1,000! Just one voice-over can bring in over $3,000. Using your acting skills on a regular basis in classwork makes you practiced and ready for auditions.
In this class you’ll work on scenes and monologues. You’ll learn the essentials of discovering and developing your character, how to act with specifics rather than generalities, and how to play your objectives with strength and commitment. You’ll discover how to perform with honesty and reality, and how to make your character authentic. You’ll find out how to make each scene believable to casting directors.
The last 45–60 minutes of each class will be devoted to learning and practicing voice-over skills including:

  • Understanding and working on various types of voiceovers: announcer, real-person, dialogue, animation, comedy, narration
  • Discovering what you need to become a successful voice actor
  • Learning how to be creative with copy and give it your own personal interpretation

Class requirements:
  • Please bring to the first class a monologue or two-person scene with another student. It can be at any stage of rehearsal
  • Drop-in students should bring in a rehearsed monologue or scene.
  • Voice-over copy will be provided by the instructor, and monologues and scenes can be chosen by him or you can select them yourself
  • Suggested reading for this class: “Respect for Acting” and “A Challenge for the Actor” by Uta Hagen; “An Actor Prepares,” ““Building A Character,” and “Creating A Role” by Constantin Stanislavski; “The Season” by William Goldman; “Letters from an Actor” by William Redfield

Class is limited to 15 students - March 8th - April 26th, 2018

This weekly 4-hour intensive class is crucial to learning and honing your Improvisation, Audition and Acting Business skills, keeping them sharp and landing bookings. Landing just one co-star booking can make your almost $1,000!

The first 2 hours will focus on Improvisation in Acting. Taught by Johnny Culver, you will learn to be alive, active and real in each moment during your scenes even when quick changes make you feel out of your comfort zone. You will learn to adapt quickly to changes that might be thrown at you during your scenes by Casting Directors. You will learn to adapt quickly when the relationships in a scene are suddenly changed. You will learn to adapt quickly when the circumstances in a scene are suddenly changed. You will be working with improvised scenarios as well as scripted scenes. Above all, you will learn to still be real and believable as your improvise upon your work.

The second 2 hours will be taught by Albert Bramante. In the On-Camera Audition Skills Training section, you will be working each week in a simulated audition setting:

  • You will learn what a Talent Agent and Casting Director wants your scene to look like during an audition.
  • Students can use film, tv, or theater scenes.
  • All scenes will be put on-camera, so that you can review your work after class.
  • You will work with a reader for each scene.
  • You will be asked to incorporate any last-minute changes to character and circumstances.

In the Business of Acting section, each week you will learn and hone a different business skill to help you maximize your type, maximize your marketing, build and maintain your relationship with talent agents and casting directors, and succeed in consistently in building your career momentum.

Improve your book, get the confidence you need and make your auditions break through.
Grammy-winning composer, producer and music arranger Thomas Z. Shepard is the class accompanist.
Have a big audition coming up? Drop in and Alan will guide you into performing the song with depth and understanding. His musical performance exercises will take your best 16- or 32-bar audition piece and make it better than ever — it’ll suit the audition and you’ll book the job!
